Dental Implants are the #1 way to replace missing teeth. Implants offer the most predictable long term success which is why they are the present and future of dentistry. Dental Implants look and function like natural teeth without involving adjacent teeth or any removable appliances.

What is a Dental Implant?

An Implant is a small metal post made out of titanium that replaces and mimics the root of a missing tooth. Like your natural tooth roots, you do not see them and they serve as the supporting structure for the crown of the tooth. Implants are made out of titanium because this particular metal is biocompatible meaning that your body will accept it. This is the same reason knee and hip replacements are done with titanium. After the Implant is placed, a crown can be built on top of it to give you a beautiful and functional replacement tooth.

Am I a good candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are healthy and the tooth has not been missing for a long period of time then most likely you are a good candidate. Dental Implants are not an option for everyone though. Certain heart conditions, diabetes, clotting issues, and other medical conditions can be contraindications for this procedure. Another consideration is the bone quality in the area that the implant will be placed so there is sufficient support for the Implant. How long the tooth has been missing and age are the two biggest factors in determining if there is sufficient bone in the site. The best way to find out if Dental Implants are right for you is to set up an Implant Consult with us.

How much do Implants cost?

Dental Implant costs vary due to the number of teeth being replaced, individual insurances, and any treatments that may be needed prior to placing the Implant. The best way to o find out is to schedule a consult and let us come up with a treatment plan just for you. Our team of financial coordinators will work with you and your insurance to come up with an affordable payment option.

Do Implants hurt?

This is the most common question we get and the answer is no! There are no nerves in the bone making the post-op sensitivity with an Implant less than that of a filling. The only soreness that can occur is typically from the gums but you can resume normal activity in most cases the same or next day. We see every patient 1-2 weeks after an implant and everyone is always pleasantly surprised how pain free the whole process is.

How long does the Implant process take?

This can also vary but typically from the time the Implant is placed to the time you get the tooth is anywhere between  3 to 6 months. There is a waiting period when the body needs to heal and the bone fuses with the implant to make it extremely strong to support long term usage. In any case if the Implant is in an esthetic area or needed for function there is a variety of temporary tooth replacement options that can be discussed while the Implant heals. Once the Implant is integrated an impression is taken and the lab makes the final crown.

Straighter, healthier, and more esthetic teeth are possible for people of all ages with the help of clear aligner therapy from Invisalign. Millions of people have changed their smile with Invisalign instead of traditional metal braces because it can be quicker, cheaper, and nearly invisible! Contact our office for a free Invisalign consult to see if you would be a good candidate and learn more about how the process works.

We are a silver filling (amalgam) free office. We now know that this material contains mercury and most offices are not offering that as a restorative material anymore. At Scheier Family Dentistry we use a composite resin material (bonding) that matches the tooth color for improved esthetics while still giving long term successful restorations.

These days everyone wants whiter teeth but there are so many options it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. At Scheier Family Dentistry we want long lasting results at an affordable price for our patients. We currently offer three whitening options. The first is our Whitening for Life program which consists of clear custom fit trays that you apply our whitening gel to and wear in the convenience of your own home. New whitening gel is supplied free of charge for you at every 6 month checkup visit.

The second option is our Sheer White strips. They are a professional strength whitening agent not sold over the counter that is easy to apply and again is worn at home. Each pack comes with 5-10 treatments that are comfortable and work great. These two whitening methods are gentler on your teeth than the one day in office alternatives and offer longer lasting results. Call today for pricing information and to discuss how to get started on your whiter smile!

At Scheier Family Dentistry we see patients of all ages including children. We recommend bringing your child in for their first visit by the age of two. We provide comprehensive care for your kids, including cleanings, sealants, fluoride application, and dental education for how to best care for your child’s teeth. If needed, we also perform restorative treatment for cavities and extractions of baby teeth. We want to be the first dental experience for your children because we believe the dentist can be a fun place that your kids will enjoy. We have a playroom in the waiting room and an office dog named Selina for the kids to play with. Every appointment ends with a trip to the treasure chest to pick out a toy for being a good and cooperative patient.

Since Suburban Water Districts do not have fluoride (a scientifically proven way to reduce cavities in children), we highly recommend an application of fluoride to your child’s teeth at each six month check up until their are in their mid-teens.

If snoring is a problem for you then a custom made snoring appliance is your answer. These devices work by positioning the jaw in a slightly downward and forward position to physically open the airway and prevent snoring. There are a variety of elastic sizes and strengths to custom fit your jaw for maximum effectiveness and comfort.

Digital radiography utilizes computer technology and digital sensors for the acquisition, viewing, storage, and sharing of radiographic images. It offers several advantages over the older traditional film based methods of taking x-rays. The most significant of these advantages is that digital radiography reduces a patient’s exposure to radiation. Other benefits are that images can be viewed instantly after being taken, can be seen simultaneously as needed by multiple practitioners, and can be easily shared with other offices. Digital x-rays are also safer for the environment as they do not require any chemicals or paper to develop.

As part of the aging process wrinkles and furrows can develop between the brows and crow’s feet can appear around the eyes. Fortunately, there is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure available today that can effectively address these unwanted signs of aging.

Botox® is a prescription medicine that can be injected into the affected areas to dramatically improve the look of these fine lines and furrows. Made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, Botox® gives the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. It works by blocking nerve impulses and temporarily relaxing the muscles that are causing these wrinkles and furrows.

Studies also suggest that Botox® is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.
